TC O'Brien

Founder/Artistic Director

Mrs. TC O’Brien received her Bachelor's in Music Education and Master's Degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Maryland, College Park.  She taught middle and high school choral music for 30 years, directed a semester at both the College of Southern MD and St. Mary’s College of Maryland, and retired from Charles County Public Schools in 2017.  From 2017-2021 TC served as artistic director of St. Maries Choral Arts and St. Maries Musica.  During the pandemic, TC developed an intense desire to provide hope in the community through the power of music and was inspired by lyrics in Eric Whitacre’s song Sing Gently “May our singing be music for others and may it keep others aloft.”  Her vision of Helping Others through Performances of Excellence in Southern Maryland now comes to life through Hope in Harmony.

TC’s choral ensembles consistently received Superior ratings at District, State and National Choral Festivals and performed for many prestigious events including the “Festival of Lights”, the Pentagon Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Maryland State House, the State Superintendents Conference, the National School Board Association’s Annual Conference, a joint concert with the United States Army Soldiers’ Chorus, champion at the national “Sing Strong” a cappella competition, the Washington Chorus Candlelight Christmas at the Kennedy Center and Strathmore Music Hall, and opened for the world renown a cappella ensemble the “Pentatonix.”

In 1991 TC received Charles County's Young Careerist Award and in 1992 was recognized by the Charles County Board of Education as an Outstanding Music Teacher.  In the spring of 1997, she was honored by the Washington Post with the Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award.   TC has been a guest conductor and adjudicator in Maryland and Virginia and conducted clinics for the Maryland Music Educators Association and the American Choral Directors Association. As a member of the Maryland Music Educators Association, she served as the Southern Region President from 1993 to 1995, Co-chaired the first Maryland Senior Women’s All State Choir in 2002, received the MMEA Outstanding Music Teacher Award in 2016, and in February 2024 will have the distinct honor of guest conducting the re-inauguration of the Maryland All State Treble Choir.  TC would like to thank her family and friends for their love and support in helping Hope in Harmony rise up from a dream to reality!
